Turbinoptid mites live on corneous matter in the external nares.  Rhinonyssid mites feed on blood.  Most occupy the anterior nares, but Sternostoma infiltrates the lung sacs.  Ereynetid mites feed on mucus deep in the nasal cavity.  The cloacarid mite Pneumophagus lives in the trachea and bronchi.
